What is Exceptional Georgetown Alliance?
A group of dedicated individuals from the Georgetown community acting on their belief that all children and young adults in Georgetown should have access to affordable and appropriate opportunities for growth. We are partnered with Chisholm Trail Community Foundation.
Our mission is to provide educational, recreational, social and vocational programs to children and young adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities.
How will EGA use your donation?
Everyone in our alliance works on a volunteer basis. All money we raise is directed towards our mission. Some of our programs are listed below.
Summer Camps
EGA has facilitated the development of a therapeutic summer camp program for school aged students with cognitive and developmental disabilities. Through a one year grant from the City of Georgetown, private donations, fundraisers, and a grant from Autism Speaks, EGA has provided scholarships that allow families to afford this valuable experience.
Recreational and Social Programs
Working with community groups, EGA has facilitated the following new programs:
Georgetown Dribblers Adaptive Basketball League
Stars and Strikes Bowling League at Mel’s Lone Star Lanes
“Bounce Parties” for friends and families of developmentally challenged children.
Educational Programs
With Southwestern students, EGA prepared classroom materials for a special education classroom.
Breakfast Club: Parents of students in special education meet for coffee and conversation.
We are also working with the Georgetown Police Department on their new “Take Me Home” project, in which emergency responders will have access to information about individuals with communication or cognitive disorders so that they will be able to return them to their families if lost.
Who is on the EGA board?
Dedicated Georgetown residents, including educators, active community leaders, business owners and parents of children with disabilities. We look forward to working with you in building a brighter future for all of the children of Georgetown.
